| Today, many adolescents and their families face difficult times. Many of these young men and women struggle getting along with their parents and more often then not turn to drugs and alcohol, skipping school, running away, physical and verbal abuse toward parents. The family becomes chaotic and it is a major task just getting through the day. Often the family faces the difficult decision of sending the adolescent to residential treatment. Many times these recommendations come under scrutiny by other family members and professionals. At times, it seems that the only way to settle the absolute craziness in the family with the child is to remove them from the home and offer them a safe environment where they can reflect on their behavior and learn more effective coping mechanisms. No matter what the reason, the decision to send a child to residential treatment does not come without tremendous heartache to the parents. |
