He graduated Cum Laude from the University of Maryland with an undergraduate degree in Social Work. Joel was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army for twelve years and fell three stories out of a helicopter and lived to tell about it. He has worked at the Montgomery County, Pre-Release Center and has excellent training in leadership skills as well as non-violent self defense, deescalation and restraint training. He has worked with adolescents in many capacities over the past twenty years, including church, civic organizations, and through his educational training. Joel is guided by the twelve steps and believes that adolescents need guidance to navigate the transition into adulthood. Joel enjoys playing with his daughter, camping, movies, soccer, white water rafting and travel.
